Human Race!?!

Alas!! the media has got a great fodder in the form of the India-Australia series, to keep there papers thick and running for weeks. These days the biggest problem with the media is that we are not getting facts as it is , we more often than not get personal views of journalists on certain issues. Reading different newspaper and other articles we tend to get different views on a subject, in a way that we are not able to judge for ourselves on the issue, we tend to get more influenced by the views of the journalists.

If monkey chants thrown at an individual counts as racist slurs then every fucking individual in the world is a racist. The same person who meant Symonds when he made those remarks would have some point in time insulted his best friend in the same manner, does that make him a racist???. In my school days there used to be a guy call Karthik who had dark skin and we used to call him kaka(crow) and mimic a crow everytime he enters the classroom, so this makes my entire class and all students in my school a racist(according to these media reporters). I cannot see one Tamil guy/girl stopping himself calling a Telegu guy/girl as Golti for the fun of it, so it makes everyone of us a racist.

I still remember Adam Gilchritst calling the Indian team a bunch of bloody Indians a few years ago, it was all hushed up. Adam Gilchrist even intimidates the umpires. Do you think nothing of this happens in Australia. Muthiah Muralitharan gets to be taunted and insulted because of his skin everytime he goes to Australia, they are not a bunch of cute little bunnies either. They are equally arrongant, but all those arent written as fervently as the current Symonds issue.

Well we have been going through all these things for a very long time, so welcome to our world. Its great to see you guys taste what we go through or our friends and relatives go through everyday. Even if we want to apply to Austrailia for studies we are in a totally different assessment level for the Visa's than other countries like US or UK. Why dont these journalists write a long winding, emotional article about this in the newspaper.

These people tend to forget what happens in your own backyard and complain about us. I request all of you to consider what Indians go through in those white countries and these recents incidents and figure out for yourselves whether they had any racist intent.

I agree to what ever u have written...Can u believe it 4 members from the crowd were arrested because they imitated a monkey!!!!Everytime we go down under, how the hell are we greeted, given a warn hug and a kiss is it???Its not just the Indians who suffer in Aus.Remember Muttiah Muralitharan, that guy did not even want to visit that country again, even the PM had made some harsh comments against him. Were they all arrested, in fact Murali was asked to take things easy!!Racist comments are passed day in and day out in Aus, and our dear cricketers dont even complain!

Calling the crowd racist???????I dont think 4 pple make a crowd...In fact i read an article after the last ODI that Johnson and Hodge had taunted the crowd..were they suspended or even dropped????????Its all so weird when journalists take sides....

"Austraila got the taste of their own medicine"; "Australia got what they deserved". Some of dis-heartening lines from current day youth.

I would blame it on the time when Ganguly took-charge as captain. It was then, when the team started behaving like the Aussies, and the whole nation was proud about it. I still can't understand; If someone comes to you and says "U need to be a non-Indian to succeed" will you succumb to that ad'vice' just for success? in 83, we won the WC as an "Indian" team.

This is not a problem of just the cricket team, but the entire nation's attitude including the current govt. If things go on this way, I wouldn't be surprised if Cho comes up with a sequel to "Enge Brahmanan?", titling his new one " Enge Indian?"

@sriram r.. hey nice comment very true... i think we need some strong movie to really make people understand.. but actually one of the police officers who had detained those 4 ppl for those monkey chants came on camera to say that if any of us have a problem on the aussie team we can come and make a formal complaint and necessary action will be taken and thats nice to see...

i don't exactly share your opinion shiv, yes they are makin a huge issue out of this "monkey" imitation, but there had been some racist comments that had been passed by some ppl in the crowd! Yes aus is one of those nations wher racism exists very much, but we indians have also been guilty of racism, indians normally tend to warm up easily to a "gora"!!Even today this is evident, which is very much shockin since our culture gave birth to the most tolerant religion in the world, it disheartenin to knw indians steep so low to show their patriotism!! Jus becos aussies are guilty of racism it doesn't justify wat we did!!!
@sri- I feel our team attained professionalism only under ganguly's captaincy, i don't think his attitude was "UnIndian", though it was certainly rude, come on ya we are all humans first, so we are entitled to any emotion, as long as it doesn't violate any basic human right! I don't think ganguly showed any racial discrimination!! Sometimes change comes at the cost of crossin cultural barriers, as long as ppl are benefited and paves way for development it's only fair that we be accommodating

no yar i don beleive making monkey chants count as racism...and u knw what australians throw banana's at muralitharan jus because he is non-white and he is going to break an australians record , they even taunt south africans, english, indians, pakistanis and when there own team gets something in return they are not able to digest it.. why is it so??... and they start with all these verbal volleys which i beleive even it isn illegal, higly unethical. See many countries dont make a big issue of it , so it goes unnoticed, do you know muralitharan did not tour australia for the past 12 years, because of the kind of recepotion he gets... even their prime minister called him a cheat... if the leader of their nation does like this than u can see what a gr8 role model he is...and imagine what impression the people will get...in the past aussie tours to india nothing of this sort has happened at all, now i am happy that they are now going through what all the other nations go through in australia when they tour there.

hey shiv am not callin monkey chants as racism at all, but apart from tat ther have been reports of racist comments been passed from the crowd!! Yes i am very well aware of the muralitharan issue, also how fierce racism exists in australia, but it doesn't justify us indulgin in racism!! Monkey imitation was acceptable, but passin racist comments are certainly not, cos our nation has always been against racism, several times a victim of racism too, in which cases we have handled ourselves well, but we definitely mustn't steep so low!!

We need not steep so low..thats fine...but the aussies cried foul for hearing taunts when they r the ones who generally are at the giving end.I dono wat racist comments we made against symmonds..half way thro the series he said the crowd were being racists and at the end of the series he says, nothing big really happened and suddenly he has started behaving nice......

@reva no they have been calling these monkey taunts as only racists..there was nothing else that our crowd did but to imitate a monkey and booed him .. they are calling only this as racist remarks .. there was nothing else that happened....
